Use this article to select the CRM database, object type, and CSV file for your Magical Import, understand how AI automatically applies field mappings from your CSV, and choose a saved template to apply a consistent import configuration.
Selecting a CSV and template for import is the first step in Magical Import, where you choose the database, object type, and CSV file that all later settings build on. Once the CSV loads, Insycle can automatically suggest field mappings and matching criteria if AI is enabled for the object type, or you can select a saved template to apply a consistent, pre-built configuration.
Selecting the Database and Object Type
Selecting the database and object type tells Insycle which CRM records the CSV will import into.
Navigate to Data Management > Magical Import. Then, select the database and the object type from the menu at the top of the page.
The image above shows the top of the Magical Import module with a Salesforce database named "Acme Robotics" selected. An arrow points to "Contacts" in the open object type dropdown, which also lists "Contracts" and "Custom Demo" as available options, highlighting Contacts as the selected object type.
Selecting the CSV File
In the Magical Import module's file selection step, choosing a CSV file loads its rows into the Preview panel so you can begin mapping columns to CRM fields.
Under Pick a .CSV file to load into Insycle, click Upload and choose the CSV file that you want to import.
The image above shows the Magical Import module's CSV file selection prompt, reading "Pick a .CSV file to load into Insycle," with a yellow Upload button featuring a cloud icon.
AI-Powered Automatic Mapping
If AI is enabled for the selected object type — with at least "Meta" level access configured in your AI settings — Insycle automatically analyzes your CSV column names and suggests appropriate CRM field mappings and matching criteria. This takes a few seconds after the CSV loads, and you may see warnings resolve themselves.
Note: The AI only accesses metadata, such as column names and field labels. No record data is shared with AI service providers during this mapping process.
The Preview panel opens and loads the CSV rows, with a column for each field.
The image above shows the Preview panel in the Magical Import module, with the Filter set to "Show All Rows." The CSV Column header row displays the mapped column names Email, Company Name, First Name, Last Name, and Phone (partially visible).
Columns that don't exactly match a field name in your CRM database display a warning icon: . These columns require your attention when you map fields in the next step.
The image above shows the Preview panel in the Magical Import module, with the Filter set to "Show All Rows." The CSV Column header row displays the mapped CSV column names: e-mail, account, Name, and City. One row displays a red warning icon next to both the row number and the account column value, indicating a column value that requires attention before import.
Selecting a Template
In the Magical Import module, selecting a template applies a saved configuration — Data Mapping, Preparation, Validation, and Operations settings — instead of setting each one up manually.
Select a template if you or someone on your team has already saved one that can handle importing from the same source. Templates streamline and standardize the import process, letting your whole team import data reliably and consistently each time.
The image above shows the Template field in the Magical Import module with its dropdown open. A Search field appears at the top of the dropdown, followed by a list of existing templates — including "Deduplication master and exclude import," "Event Template," "govdocs," and "ID - Email Campaign - User Conf 01 17-19" — each listing its creator and last-updated date. The Preview panel is partially visible behind the open dropdown.
Magical Import templates load configurations that affect the Data Mapping, Preparation, Validation, and Operations settings. When settings are loaded from a template, a blue number indicates where each setting was applied.
The image above shows the four collapsible section headers in the Magical Import module: Data Mapping ("Map columns and deduplicate"), Data Preparation ("Format, cleanse, and standardize"), Data Validation ("Prevent invalid data from entering"), and Data Operations ("Bulk update, associate, date format"). Data Preparation shows a blue numbered badge with "4," and Data Validation shows a blue numbered badge with "1," indicating how many settings loaded into each section from a selected template. Data Mapping and Data Operations do not display a badge. Data Operations is expanded (downward chevron), while the other three sections are collapsed (rightward chevron).
AI vs. Template Priority
If you select a template after AI has already processed your CSV, the template's settings take precedence over the AI suggestions. For the best results, select your template first, then review any AI suggestions for fields the template didn't cover.
Next Steps in Configuring Your Import
Once you've selected your CSV, database, object type, and any template, continue to Mapping CSV Columns to CRM Fields, Field Logic, and Matching Criteria to review your field mappings and set up Matching Criteria.
