Bulk Convert Leads to Contacts and Accounts In Salesforce


In Salesforce, you can use both Leads and Contacts to organize your engagement with individuals.

However, there are differences between both record types. For instance, leads can not be natively associated with accounts and opportunities in Salesforce.

For this reason, companies often need to convert leads to contacts & accounts in Salesforce. But this cannot be handled in bulk automatically through Salesforce's base features.

Insycle allows you to flexibly convert leads to contacts in bulk, or even automatically.

How It Works

Insycle allows you to bulk convert leads to contacts and accounts without going through the time-consuming conversion process. When complete, the lead record will be removed and new contact, and account records will be created in its place.

These conversions can be made in bulk, with pre-determined rules for matching leads to accounts, using any field in your database.


First, you filter your data down to the leads that you would like to convert, using rules. Then, you tell Insycle to convert the records. With just a few clicks, you've converted leads to contacts in mass.

Additionally, you can use Insycle's automation features to ensure that leads are automatically converted consistently.

Pre-Requisite: Leads Linked to Accounts

Before you can bulk convert leads to contacts and accounts in Salesforce, you need to have the leads linked to the correct account in Salesforce. Without that, you will not be able to convert leads to accounts and contacts.

This is because Salesforce looks for that link before converting the lead. If the link is not in place, Salesforce will not be able to identify the correct account record and the conversion will not take place.

Pre-Requisite: Download the Insycle Salesforce AppExchange App

In order to bulk convert leads to contacts and accounts, you must first install the Insycle AppExchange app.

In order to make the conversion, Insycle will need to use APEX code. Without the app installed, Insycle cannot use APEX code.

Step 1: Define Filter

To convert leads to contacts in Salesforce, we will use the Bulk Operations Module. Navigate there, and select "Contacts" from the top of the Bulk Operations module screen.

In Step 1, we tell Insycle how to filter your database down to the records that you would like to update. In this example, we will filter our leads down to those that were created in the last six months.

Records that match this filter will populate in the Record Viewer at the bottom of the screen.

Then, in the Layout tab, you can choose fields that you would like to include in the Record Viewer. These fields will also be present in any reports or exports from this module as well.

Step 2: Convert

In Step 2, we want to make sure that we are working from the fourth tab, “Convert."


This option is only available for Leads and is the selection for converting Leads to Contacts.

Step 3: Preview or Update

Now, with our filter and update action in place, we can run the bulk operation to convert Salesforce Leads to Contacts and Accounts.

When running the Bulk Operations module, especially the first time, it is a good idea to run in Preview Mode. This allows you to view the changes to the data in a CSV file before the updates are pushed to your database. Here, you can check to make sure that everything is working as expected and make any necessary changes before pushing the updates to your live database.

You can do this by clicking the Review Button in Step 3.


A popup will appear. Here, in Stage 1, we can select the Preview Mode or Update Mode,

Preview Mode runs to process and makes the changes reviewable in a CSV file, but does not update your live CRM database. If you choose Update mode, the data changes will go live in your CRM when the operation is processed.

Then click the “Next” button.

In Step 2 of the Review process, you can choose where you send the generated report. Your email will automatically be added to the list but other co-workers and colleagues that you are collaborating with can also be added here.

Bulk Convert

Once finished, click the “Next” button.

In Step 3, you can choose whether you would like this operation to run one time, or continuously. There are two tabs on this screen—Automate and Run Now.

Automate or Run Now

When you select the Run Now tab, you are choosing to run the field update operation one time, immediately. You can run it on selected records, on a small chunk, or on all of the fields that met the criteria.

Alternatively, you can schedule this module to run on a set, recurring basis in the Automate tab. Here, you can choose to schedule this operation to run hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly. When scheduled, the module will automatically run on your desired schedule and email the reports after it has run.

You can view all scheduled automations on the “Automations” page on your dashboard.

When the operation runs, you'll have a CSV detailing the changes delivered to your email, and will be redirected to a report that breaks down the updates. You can always view changes made through Insycle in the Activity Tracker.

Preview Changes Before They Go Live

You can preview the changes that you are making to your data before those changes are pushed to your live database. When you run select modules in Insycle, you have the option of choosing between Preview Mode and Update Mode once you click the button.


You can set up ongoing data maintenance automation with Insycle on the module level, or using Recipes.

Audit Trail and History

The Activity Tracker lets you review all changes made through Insycle. At any time you can download a CSV report of the operation and records affected, including while using Bulk Operations.
